Thomas Geils Loughary, age 86 of Beardstown, died Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born April 13, 1935 in Beardstown, the son of Jesse Randolph “Randy” and Frances Geils Loughary.
He is survived by three children Pamela (husband Gerhardt) Runkel of Fishers, IN, Dr. Thomas (wife Vicki) Loughary of Murrayville, and Cathy Turner of Springfield; four grandchildren Brian (wife Tiffany) Turner, Mic Loughary (companion Tracy Trowbridge), Matthew Runkel, and Paige (husband Dallas) Dibkey; two great grandchildren Hailey and Mason Turner; one sister Jean Scheiferdecker; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Jan Brasel, and two brothers Walter and James Loughary.
Tom graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1953. In 1957, he began a career with CIPS starting as an emergency groundman in Beardstown. He later served as a line clearance man in Pittsfield before becoming a lineman at Carthage. Tom concluded his career as a transmission engineer in Beardstown retiring in 1995 after 38 years. He was a baptized and confirmed member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown and a member of Beardstown Elks Lodge #1007. Tom was an avid bird hunter and trained excellent English Setter bird dogs. He was active in the instruction of youth gun safety, and a member of the National Rifle Association, Quail Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and Wild Turkey Federation. After retirement, Tom frequented Site M regularly.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the services at the church. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
