Thomas E. "Tom" Flowers, 66 of Beardstown, died at his home on Friday, December 29, 2023.
He was born August 14, 1957 in Beardstown, the son of Charles and Elizabeth Korte Flowers. He met Cathleen "Cathy" Sansone in 1981 and they married on April 23, 1988, in Bluff Springs. She survives in Beardstown.
He is also survived by his two children Samuel Flowers (partner Jodi Hohman) of Beardstown and Sarah (husband Bryson) Jibben of Coatsburg with a grandchild arriving soon; his sister Marcie (husband Don) Herter of Beardstown; his mother-in-law Audrey Sansone of Melbourne, FL; three sisters-in-law Sherry Clement (partner Nanette) of Webster, NY; Theresa Nemitz of Webster, NY; Diane Sansone of W. Bloomfield, NY; two brothers-in-law; Matt (wife Alana) Sansone of Webster, NY; Dave Baumhardt of Lake Zurich, IL; Cousins and numerous nieces and nephews; and his four-legged friend Blue.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Rhonda Baumhardt, his in-laws Henry and Joan (Sansone) Herbert, and a brother-in-law Fred Sansone.
Tom, known by his friends as "Flowers," graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1975. He began his river career as a deckhand in 1977 worked his way up to captain, and then retiring in 2016 with American River Transportation Company. He took great pride in being a river boat captain. Tom was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed working on the family farm, hunting, fishing, trapping, and camping. He was an animal lover, especially dogs, horses, and cattle. Tom was a jack of all trades and found pleasure in teaching others. He was an avid harley davidson enthusist and has owned numerous motorcycles throughout the years. He also enjoyed tinkering with his treasures he found online, buying and trading trucks and tractors that had became more of a hobby. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown and a retired Bro Rider MC member. The time he spent with his family brought him the most joy.
A visitation will be held from 10 AM-12 PM on Sunday, January 7, 2023, at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. Private family burial will be held at a later date in the Beardstown City Cemetery.
