Terry Barker

Terry Israel Barker, age 84 of Beardstown, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Terry was born on February 17, 1938 in Sciota, the son of Donald R. and Vera J. Shores Barker. He married the love of his life Jeannette on December 27, 1964 and they shared 57 wonderful years together. She survives in Beardstown.

Also surviving to mourn his loss are two daughters Kelly (husband Joe) Herter and Katherine (husband Brian) Newman both of Beardstown; seven grandchildren Dan (wife Jessica) Herter, Kelsi (husband Chris) Cunningham, Kaitlyn (husband Carlos) Garcia, Abby Newman (companion Tanner Rice), Brea Newman, Emma Newman, and Sara Newman; and four great grandchildren Collin Herter, Chip Herter, Moira Cunningham, and Gavin Garcia. Terry is also survived by four brothers Lew Barker (deceased wife Hennie), Tom Barker (deceased wife Terri Jo), Michael Barker, and Lynn (wife Jan) Barker.

Terry graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1956 and shortly after joined the United States Army. Following his service in the armed forces, Terry joined Union 965 and worked as an operator for 40 years. Terry remained a member of the union until his death. He was also a member of the Beardstown Elks Lodge #1007 for 62 years, and a member of Beardstown First United Methodist Church.

Terry loved his family and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. There was nothing more special to him being “Pops”. He also loved a slow morning on the front porch and spending time with his grand dogs. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at First United Methodist Church in Beardstown with Reverend Jarrett Wells officiating. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery with military honors conducted by Guthrie-Pierce VFW Post #1239 of Beardstown. There will be no visitation. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
