Steven Michael Lovekamp, beloved son, brother, and father, passed away on October 4, 2023, at his childhood home in Beardstown, IL. Born on March 16, 1956, son of Dale and Wyllia Tucker Lovekamp, Steven leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
He is survived by his mother Wyllia Lovekamp of Beardstown; two sons Trevor (Kacey) Lovekamp of Low Moor IA, and Tyler Lovekamp; five grandchildren Willow, Wyatt, Kaide, Skyler, and Carter; one sister Cynthia (husband Richard Emmons) Lovekamp of Paola, KS; one Aunt Blanche Chipman of Springfield; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, four aunts, and two uncles.
Steven was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beardstown. He attended Beardstown High School, graduating with the class of 1974. As a student, he excelled in sports, particularly football, donning the number 55 on the Tiger football team. Steven continued his education at Western Illinois University, earning a bachelor's degree in Natural Resources Conservation.
Passionate about nature and the preservation of wildlife, Steven dedicated 33 years of his life to the Illinois Department of Conservation. Throughout his career, he served as a park ranger in various communities, eventually finding his true calling in Findlay, where he oversaw the Eagle Creek State Park. Steven's commitment to the outdoors was unwavering, and his knowledge and dedication were respected by all who knew him.
Outside of his professional life, Steven found solace in the simple joys of life. He loved playing little league baseball, hunting, fishing, collecting arrowheads, knives, and coins, and selling produce alongside his father. For over two decades, locals could find Steven and his father selling their fresh produce at the corner of IL Rt 128 and Findlay Blacktop also known as Assumption Blacktop.
Steven's compassionate and caring nature extended beyond his work and hobbies. He personally dedicated the past few years caring for his mother. He was a proud member of the Beardstown VFW Post #1239 Auxiliary, serving veterans and demonstrating his unwavering patriotism and support that he learned from observing his father.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM Monday, October 9, 2023 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beardstown. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 1-2 PM Monday at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. Auxiliary honors will be conducted immediately following the visitation at Colwell Memorial Home.
