Sharon R. Lewis, 73, of Beardstown, went to heaven Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.
She was born May 16, 1951, in Oregon, the daughter of Buck and Dollie Gabbert Lewis.
She is survived by her sister Susan (husband David) Gerdes of Beardstown; a niece Amanda (husband Shawn) Wellenkamp; two nephews Casey (wife Carmen) Gerdes and Richard (wife Ronda) Dwyer; six great nieces and nephews Kaylee (significant other Dylan Patterson) Krems, Tyson Krems, Rylan and Brayden Wellenkamp, and Jasmine and Caden Gerdes; three great-great niece's Charlotte, Eleanor, and Malea: and her best friend Sharon Wellenkamp. Her family, who were her world, will cherish her memory. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother Tom Lewis, and an Aunt Goldie Smith.
Sharon, a proud graduate from Beardstown School in the class of 1969, was a woman of many passions. She worked at Southern Air and Manhattan Restaurant in Beardstown, in the office of her dad's business, Lewis Disposal and Landfill Service, and was a familiar face at the Beardstown IGA. She was an avid Cardinals fan, enjoyed bowling in her younger years, played Bingo, was a fierce competitor when it came to playing Euchre, and mastered puzzles. She found joy in the simple pleasures of gathering around the kitchen table to watch game shows and thoroughly enjoyed taking rides to see the swans and geese with her sister. Her family was her world. Now, she has found peace in being reunited with her beloved mother.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown, with Pastor Mike Courson and Pastor Daryl Vermillion officiating. The burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends one hour before the services at the memorial home on Saturday.
