Raymond J. “Junior” Cook, age 84 of Browning, died Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at his home.
He was born October 13, 1936 in New Salem, the son of Raymond and Loretta Mae Sutlif. He married Lori Hines on October 8, 1997 in Springfield.
He is survived by his wife Lori Cook of Browning; three sons Michael (wife Penny) Cook of Mt. Sterling, Raymond “Matt” (wife Marti) Cook of Browning, and Dustin Cook of Springfield; three grandchildren Jason, Josh, and Summer; six great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Mark Cook, two grandsons Johnathon Cook and Jake Scott, two sisters Eva Lynn and Lois Hull Dowds, and two brothers Winifred Cook and Bill Cook.
Junior attended Beardstown Schools. After the death of his father while Junior was in high school, he helped support his family by working at the flour mill. Years later he served the Beardstown community as a police officer and then worked security for Illinois National Bank in Springfield. Junior loved fishing, making music with his friends, and making guitars and violins. He only roller skated with his wife one time, and he enjoyed meeting up with her on the dance floor.
Cremation rites have been accorded. The family will host a celebration of life gathering from 2-6 PM on October 10, 2021 at the home of Matt and Marti Cook in Browning.
