Naomi Dotzert

Naomi Lucille Fiedler Dotzert, 94 of Beardstown, died Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Heritage Health in Jacksonville.

She was born January 27, 1922 in Bluff Springs, the daughter of John Valentine and Minnie Elizabeth Jorden Fiedler. She married William Louis Dotzert on Easter Sunday, April 17, 1949 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bluff Springs and he preceded her in death on November 8, 1991.

She is survived by her daughters Susan C. (husband Harold) Willner of Quincy, Barbara J. (husband James) Hart of Winchester, Anne E. (husband Bill) Herring of Jacksonville, and Ellen M. Dotzert of Quincy; six grandchildren Vanessa (husband Chuck) Coons, Tammy (husband Damion) Epping, Chris (wife Jennifer) Hart, Andy (wife Debbie) Hart, Becky Hart, and Tyler Herring; a step grandson Eddie (Brenda) Willner; six great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; one step great great grandson; a sister in law Lydia Alcorn; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.


She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother Kenneth (surviving wife Mary Margaret) Fiedler.


Mrs. Dotzert graduated from Beardstown High School in the Class of 1939. She was raised on the family farm in Bluff Springs. During World War II she taught school in a one room school house in Bluff Springs. When she married her husband they farmed in the Arenzville area and later retired to Beardstown. Mrs. Dotzert was a partner to her husband and looked after the chickens and garden while raising their four daughters. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bluff Springs and was dedicated to the V & B friendship club. She enjoyed sewing, being outdoors, watching the birds, her flower garden, reading and anything related to nature. She and her husband even grew and sold watermelons to help fund their children’s education. Most importantly she cherished her family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bluff Springs. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 5-8 PM Tuesday at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown.

Memorials have been suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Beardstown Bread of Love.
