Miriam Virginia Kight (Leckrone), age 78 of Beardstown, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Heritage Health in Beardstown.
She was born March 20, 1943, in Salem, the daughter of Sherrill and Floretta Busenhart Leckrone. She married Larry Kight on August 19, 1962 in Salem, and they just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Kight of Beardstown; two daughters, Vickie Kight of Effingham and Jene (husband Quentin) Swan of Beardstown; two sons, Robert (wife Tami) Kight of Newburgh, IN and Richard (wife Amy) Kight of Houston, TX; eight grandchildren, Deidre (husband Clint) Tolbert, Jackie (husband Matt) Souders, Whitlee (husband Craig) Woods, Chloe Kight, Blayne (wife Nicole) Swan, Lauren Kight, Mattie (fiance Brock Holmes) Swan, and Jackson Kight; eleven great grandchildren, Jet, Landon, and Dawson Tolbert, Taylor, Emerson, and Ayla Mae Souders, Jordy Woods, and Grace, Lilly Swan, Elsa and Violette Holmes; one sister Shirley (husband John) Brietz; one brother John (wife Becky) Leckrone; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Kight graduated from Allendale High School in the class of 1961 and attended Centralia Junior College. She worked at First National Bank in Beardstown as a bookkeeper and retired in 2005. Miriam was a member of First United Methodist Church in Beardstown where she held the position of Treasurer, and was a member of Beardstown Exchange Club. She had a talent for crocheting, knitting, and sewing, and fulfilled the request of making each of her daughters’ prom dresses. Along with her husband, Larry, they loved attending their family’s sporting and music events, plus she was an avid Cardinals fan. Miriam’s faith and family were most important, and she was known for her quiet, humble nature, and for being a strong woman of God.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, August 23, 2021 with funeral services following at 11:30 AM at First United Methodist Church in Beardstown. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
