Michael Perry “Weaser” Kays, age 65 of Beardstown, died Saturday, December 24, 2016.

He was born October 18, 1951 in Beardstown, the son of Perry F. and Kathryn Wessel Kays. He married Phyllis Miers on April 6, 1990 in Beardstown.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis Kays of Beardstown; two children Jennifer (husband Shannon) Martin of Rushville and Philip Clark of Jacksonville; four grandchildren Mylee, Jenna, and Makenna Martin, and Journey King; his special nephew Noah Miers; two sisters Judi (husband Bill) Degitz of Astoria and Mary (husband Kim) Crisman of Rushville; and one brother Rick (wife Sibby) Kays of Beardstown. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Weaser graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1970. He retired from the City of Beardstown in 2011 after 37 years of service. He worked in every department for the city and in his last years he ran the street sweeper. Weaser loved being at home, where he was a loving husband and father, and received great joy being with his grandchildren. He also loved sitting in his chair and reading a variety of books, newspapers, or watching sports, but always made sure he watched the Chicago Cubs. If he was not at home, then you could see him walking around town; up to six miles a day, or attending Calvary Baptist Church in Beardstown.

Burial will be in St. Alexius Catholic Cemetery in Beardstown. The family will meet with friends from 10 AM Wednesday until the time of services at the memorial home.
