Mary Armstrong

Mary E. Armstrong, 69 of Beardstown, died Friday, June 24th, 2016 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

She was born June 27, 1946 in Beardstown, the daughter of Walter and Laura Wilcox Pherigo. She married William Eugene Armstrong on December 23, 1969 in the front room of Lottie Morrow’s home in Beardstown, and he preceded her in death ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­November 14, 1997.

She is survived by her sons Richard and William Lee “Billy” Armstrong of Beardstown; her daughter Michelle (husband Tim) Crook of Beardstown; two grandchildren Lacey Armstrong of Liberty, MO and Stephen Michael (wife Natasha) Armstrong of Nowra, Australia; one brother Robert (wife Winnie) Pherigo of Beardstown; nine sisters Sandra Parks, Nancy Stout, Linda (husband Bill) Krems, Karen Lyles, Patty (husband James) Mayes, Judy Carpenter, Billie Jo Pherigo, Sherry (husband John) Roope, and Debbie (husband Roy) Knouse; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two siblings in infancy John Ray and Betty Joyce Pherigo.

Mary attended Beardstown High School. She was a home maker. Her life revolved around spending time with her family and especially cooking for them all. Sitting on the porch visiting with friends or spending time on Facebook brought her much enjoyment. Most of all she will be missed dearly by her children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the memorial home.
