Joann Hovendon

Joann C. Wilson Hovendon, age 74 of Beardstown, died Monday, December 4, 2017 at Heritage Health in Beardstown.

She was born April 12, 1943 in Atlantic City, NJ, the daughter of George and Virginia Quin Wilson. She married William “Bill” Harvey Hovendon on June 23, 1962 at Lottie Morrow’s house in Beardstown, and he preceded her in death on November 21, 2015.

She is survived by her children Robert Hovendon of Missouri, Daniel Hovendon of Jacksonville, Sarah Hovendon of Quincy, and Vanessa “Gail” (husband Brad) Thompson of Minot, ND; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; her sister Crystell Bartlett (companion Gary Greeling) of Roodhouse; two brothers; her special friend Julie Avery; and her adopted family Kevin Meara, Dillon Taggert, and Cody Thurman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son William Hovendon Jr, her grandson Malachi William, and two brothers George and Claude Wilson.

Joann graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1962. She was a homemaker and caregiver. She also volunteer at Beardstown Christian Academy during the 1980’s. Joann was an avid vegetable gardener. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, and completing Word Search puzzles. Most of all she cherished her children and grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held from 2-4 PM Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown.

Memorials have been suggested to American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
