Jeffery James Bennett, age 51 of Havana, died Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at his home.
He was born August 23, 1970 in Canton, the son of James E. and Evelyn M. Messman Bennett.
He is survived by three sons Tyler, Zachary, and Hunter Bennett all of Havana; a brother John Bennett; and two sisters Liz (husband Mike) Cheek of Topeka and Julie Petty of Savanna. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jeff graduated from Havana High School class of 1990. He furthered his education by receiving a Diesel Mechanic degree from Spoon River College. Jeff retired after 20 years in the National Guard and honorably served in Operation Enduring Freedom in Iraq. He was a member of Havana VFW post 6408. Jeff was a cook in the guard and considered himself his very own grill master. He worked as a mechanic for many years. Jeff loved to listen to country music, play his Atari, ride ATVs, and enjoy an occasional cigar. He was a private man but had a close bond with his dog Nala.
Cremation rites have been accorded and burial will be held at a later date in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
