Jayne Craven Caldwell, born December 31, 1921 in Beardstown, to Velma Hope Bridgman Craven and Charles R. Craven, passed away June 15, 2021 in Camarillo, CA. She was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart, husband, Robert “Buck” Caldwell and her daughter Cathlyn Caldwell Malcolm.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela (William) DeSollar; grandchildren Michelle Mesaris, Suzanne (Randy) Nunes, Jonathon Murphy Malcolm, William DeSollar III, Ann (Charles) Hale; 10 great grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and her bonus children Penny Paine, Nancy Winfrey, and Jon Gilliland.
Jayne was a proud member of the BHS Class of 1939 and was one of three living members at the time of their 80th class reunion. She always had a goal of living to be 100. While that wasn’t quite met, she was well into her 100th year.
Jayne spent all of her summers and adult life in Southern California. She was active in civic activities, city government, and wrote a column for the Carpinteria paper and two historical books on the area. Her working career was as a west coast social statistician for the University of Michigan.
Her heart was in genealogy that she researched for over 70 years, tracing her family to the Mayflower. As a result of her research, she and her husband traveled to almost every state in the United States and many European countries.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Per Jayne and her husband’s wishes, they will be buried at sea. There will be no services held.
