Janet Elaine Spears, age 74 of Beardstown, died Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at her home.
She was born September 27, 1946 in Beardstown the daughter of Oliver Andrew and Jewel Elizabeth “Bettie” Hamblin Krohe. She married Samuel Floyd “Sam” Spears on May 5, 1972 at Bethel Community Church of the Nazarene and he preceded her in death on November 8, 2014.
She is survived by her daughter Jill (husband Brian) Ross of Beardstown; her son Sam Spears of Beardstown; three grandchildren Ethan, Cade, and Carter Ross; four sisters Carol (husband Chuck) Wubker of Beardstown, Dottie Puckel of Beardstown, Ann (husband Tom) Bell of College Station, TX, and Audrey Perry of Beardstown; three brothers Myles (wife Deb) Krohe of Virginia, Allen (wife Jackie) Krohe of Beardstown, and Ken (wife Kelly) Krohe of Wichita Falls, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother David Krohe (surviving wife Lona, husband Bill Wagner), a brother-in-law Paul Puckel, a niece Pam Krohe, and a nephew Percy DeWayne Wubker.
Janet graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1964 and from St. John’s School of Nursing in 1970. She had worked as a Registered Nurse in Oklahoma for a few years, and then moved back to Beardstown and continued her nursing career. In 1980 she began working at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield and retired in 2006. During her retirement, Janet volunteered with Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice, and was a PRN for Heritage Manor, Evergreen Place, and for group homes in Beardstown.
Janet was baptized at Bethel Community Church of the Nazarene and a member of Beardstown Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed cooking and camping but her greatest memories are with her family, especially her grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Beardstown Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 4-7 PM Friday at the church. Friends may watch Janet's service streaming live at 10 AM Saturday on Colwell Memorial Home's Facebook page. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
