Janice Lea "Jan" Conner Vermillion, 72, of Beardstown, passed away Friday evening, August 4, 2023, at Beardstown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Beardstown. She was born March 23, 1951, in Beardstown, the daughter of Mary Margaret Frank and John Louis "Lefty" Conner.
She is survived by her son Joe Vermillion, of Dallas City; grandson Chase Vermillion (Lexi) of Staunton; a sister-in-law Susie Conner of Springfield; nephews Brett (Laurie) Conner of Springfield and J. Matt (Stacey) Conner of Soldotna, AK; niece Jennifer (Dan) Ambrose of Mt. Prospect; great-nieces and nephews Peyton, Wyatt, Bailey, Makena and Skylar; and cousins Alta (Conner) Aten of Beardstown and Bill (wife Linda) Conner of Milan. She was preceded in death by her parents and older brother, John "Jack" Conner of Springfield.
Jan graduated Beardstown High School in the class of 1969 and attended Brown Business College in Jacksonville. She was employed with Surratt Freight Lines as a secretary, a waitress for Museum Coffee Shop in Beardstown, Sudbrink Frasier Insurance as a secretary, a cook at Schmitt Memorial Hospital, a bank associate with First State Bank (N/K/A West Central Bank), and as the mayor's secretary for the City of Beardstown for several years. She enjoyed helping with city and county elections as an Election Judge and poll watcher. She was past president of the Beardstown Alumni Association and class treasurer. She was very involved in volunteering for the community, whether it was working fish fry fundraisers with the fire department, porkchop fundraisers, or selling tickets for other fundraisers. Jan never forgot a birthday or an anniversary, always sending timely greeting cards to family, friends, and acquaintances. In her free time, she had a passion for playing cards, but especially Aggravated Rummy or Nertz with Robin and Lori Deacon. In her younger years, you could find her around the table playing Bunco with her friends. Her other favorite place was just being at home watching westerns, older shows, Golden Girls and Mike & Molly. She was an avid Cubs fan, like her Dad. If you knew Jan, then you knew how precious her miniature collection was to her. Jan's greatest joy in life was her son and grandson and she cherished her friendships.
