James Douglas "Doug" Paul, 62 of Beardstown, died Tuesday, June 4, 2024.
He was born August 16, 1961 in Beardstown, the son of Jim and Judy Grimes Paul. He married Cristi Colver on May 19, 1990 and she survives in Beardstown.
He is also survived by his parents Jim and Judy Paul of Beardstown; two sons Adam (wife Misty) Paul of Beardstown and their children Rocky, Rose, and Rian, Dillon Paul of St. Louis, MO; a brother Darin (wife Jill) Paul of Beardstown; sister-in-law Carrie (husband Steve) Wedeking of Beardstown; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Porter and Ann Beghtol Grimes, paternal grandparents Rudy and Helene Anderson Paul, and his in-laws Jim and Linda Perry Colver.
Doug graduated from Beardstown High School in 1979 and joined the Illinois National Guard. After working for Continental Grain in Beardstown for five years, he began a 36-year career with Excel, now JBS, in the maintenance department. He was a member of Carpenter's Union Local #270. Fitness was important to him - he was athletic and excelled in sports in school. His first job was at a fitness center, and he continued to stay fit. Lately, he has enjoyed working out with Adam and Rocky at Adam's gym or in his vegetable garden. Doug loved his dogs, the outdoors, the river, hunting, snow and water skiing, and golf. He was an avid duck hunter but also enjoyed cooking and eating - perhaps even more than the hunt. Doug tried to attend as many of Rose's softball games as possible because her passion was familiar to him. Known for his friendly demeanor, he always extended a warm welcome, even during his struggles.
