Hazel Joan Chambers, age 98 of Bluff Springs, died Monday, November 25, 2024 at Beardstown Health and Rehab.
She was born September 25, 1926, in Yeovil, England, the daughter of Harold and Eunice Rogers Gulliford. She married Charles Marvin Chambers on September 13, 1947, in England, and he preceded her in death on September 16, 2017.
She is survived by three sons John (wife Kay) Chambers, David Chambers (companion Nancy Giovannini), and Michael (wife Valerie) Chambers all of Bluff Springs; three grandchildren Kerry (husband Aaron) Slater, Victoria (husband John) Reed, and Brian Chambers (fiancé Skylar Bennett); and five great grandchildren Olivia, Sydney, Chloe, Mallory, and Evren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a granddaughter, Tracey Laws, and a great-grandson, Cole Laws.
Hazel received her education in Yeovil, England. She volunteered with the British Red Cross and met her husband at a church event while he was stationed in England during the war. After the war, Charles returned home and saved his money for one year to return to England to bring Hazel back to the United States. Hazel was a farmer's wife, and many responsibilities came with that. She raised her family, cared for her parents, and ensured everyone had three home-cooked meals daily. In her spare time, she was a past Transatlantic Brides and Parent Association member and volunteered as a Pink Lady for Schmidt Memorial Hospital. She loved collecting glassware, shopping, taking walks, planting flowers, and doing church activities, especially helping with the harvest service. Her dedication to her faith, family, and community is evident in all she inspires.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Bluff Springs United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 5-7 PM Friday at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown.
