Harvey Freeman, age 75 of Springfield, died Friday, October 9, 2020 at Mill Creek Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Springfield.

He was born June 18, 1945 in Detroit, MI, the son of Harvey Freeman, Sr and Almeda Hawkins Freeman. He married Patricia Stucker and they divorced and he later married Barbara Scovill who preceded him in death after their divorce.

He is survived by one son David Freeman of Killeen, TX; two grandchildren Jordan and Tori Freeman of Silverlake, MN; his sister Marilyn (husband Felipe) Moreno of Beardstown; his daughter-in-law Teri Freeman of Silverlake, MN; an uncle Robert Berry of Cottonwood, AZ; his cousins Marcia and Eddie Berry of Cottonwood, AZ; and several nieces and nephews including Lori (husband Ben) Mastin and their children Jon and Jack of Jacksonville, IL, and Zachary T. Harvey grew up in Anchorage, AK and graduated from East Anchorage High School in the class of 1963. At age 17 he joined the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict, serving as a Boatswains Mate 3rd Class Petty Officer aboard the USS Cavalier. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Marshalltown, IA and worked at Swift’s packing plant for a few years. He then began a 13-year career with Chicago North Western Railroad before a 20-year career with Bondurant Post Office in Iowa. After his retirement from the post office he moved to Timewell, IL.

Harvey loved to read and he rode his bicycle every day when he lived in Timewell. He was a character who loved going to auctions and yard sales. He was an avid collector of anything he thought had value, which was almost everything! Towards the end of his life, Harvey was always appreciative of the care and thoughtfulness of the nurses and staff who cared for him, always giving them a sweet smile, and a pat on the hand. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

“And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4
