Harold Eugene Bishop, 86 of Benton, LA died Saturday, March 18, 2023 at his home. He was born September 4, 1936 in Schuyler County, IL the son of James Ezekiel and Margaret Caroline Irvin Bishop. He married Zelda Christine Kirkham on June 21, 1957 and she survives.
He also survived by three daughters Kathy (husband Mark) Kustra of Lockport, IL, Donna (husband Gary) Stuertz of Casey, IL and Sandra (husband Jesse) Palacios of Benton, LA; eight grandchildren Matthew, Eric (wife Natalie), Keith, Alex, Shawn, Zachary, Maxton, and Laila; five great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and one sister Joan Kirkham. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Cynthia Leach, and many brothers and sisters.
Harold attended Beardstown High School and began working for Beardstown Glove Factory. He later began a career with Lockport Material Service as a welder and operating a drill truck. Harold suffered a tragic accident at work, resulting in the loss of his right arm. Harold’s determination never let his accident slow him down. He went back to work and retired at the age of 59. He found new ways to fix things, and he maintained his pleasant and happy go lucky attitude. Harold loved rummaging through garage sale to find treasures. He collected, fixed, and gave away many bicycles in his lifetime, and spent many hours in his rose garden. Harold was a proud father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and cherished all 65 years of marriage to his wife.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the services at the memorial home on Saturday. Mr. Bishops services will be streaming live on his obituary page on the memorial home's website.
