Elizabeth Lucas

Elizabeth Jane Lucas, age 85 of Beardstown, died Monday, November 16, 2020 at Heritage Health in Beardstown.

She was born July 4, 1935 in Beardstown, the daughter of Burton Elwood and Geneva Goff Cooper. On February 20, 2020, she celebrated a 65-year marriage to Bernard James “Bud” Lucas.

She is survived by five children that she is very proud of; Lisa Shartzer of Beardstown, Linda Lucas of Saginaw, MI, Laura Bowman of Albuquerque, NM, Lizabeth (Gary Smith) Lucas of Virginia, IL, and Michael James Lucas of Fairbanks, AK,; ten grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters Mary Louise Sunberg and Lucille Madarassy, and one brother Cairl Cooper.

Jane graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1953 and later attended Gem City Business College. She owned and operated Janie and Buds Florist in Beardstown. She had a passion for quilting, gardening, and plants. Growing roses and African violets brought joy to her life. Jane enjoyed traveling the United States with her husband, especially to Texas and Colorado. She was a member of St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown. Her memory will live on in the generations to come.

A private Funeral Mass will be held at St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown. Burial will be in the St. Alexius Catholic Cemetery. There will be no visitation

Due to the current health situation, face masks will be required and to comply with social distancing guidelines, a limited number of people will be allowed in the memorial home at one time.
