Dorothea A. “Dee” Robertson, age 77 of Beardstown, died Friday, December 4, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
She was born May 11, 1938 in Taylorville, the daughter of Azzle and Lelia Arkebauer Fines. She married Robert “Bob” Robertson on July 30, 1967 in Springfield.
She is survived by her husband Bob Robertson of Beardstown; two sons Dale and Daniel Robertson both of Beardstown; and one brother Gerald Fines of Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Donald Fines.
Dee was raised on a family farm where she was responsible for helping with chores and cooking. She played the violin in the Taylorville High School Chorus and was active in 4-H. She graduated from Taylorville High School in the class of 1956 and received her degree from Brown Business College in Springfield. Dee loved working with law and politics. She went to work for Wood and Wood Law Firm in Springfield as a legal secretary. During her time working at the law firm, Dee attended Southern Illinois University, and later worked in Hawaii for an associate of Wood and Wood. She also was asked by the law firm to go to Washington, D.C. and help at the Republican Headquarters during the Barry Goldwater campaign.
When she married the love of her life, they resided in Beardstown where she helped her husband with the family construction business. What brought her joy was not only her children, but all children. She taught Sunday School at First United Methodist Church in Beardstown, was also a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, and was a member of the Beardstown School Board. She was a generous person with a giving heart, and never wanted anything in return for it.
Private family services will be held with Reverend Robert Schoolcraft officiating. Burial will be in Beard Cemetery in rural Beardstown. There will be no visitation.
Memorials have been suggested to First United Methodist Church.
