Dick Tyson

June 11, 1931 — August 12, 2022

Dick Lee Tyson, 91 of Beardstown, died peacefully Friday, August 12, 2022 at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia with his daughter by his side.

He was born June 11, 1931 in Scab Hollow, Schuyler County, the son of Guy and Elsie Skiles Tyson. He married Dorothy Jeane Genseal on June 21, 1953 in Rushville.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy Jeane Tyson of Beardstown; one daughter Cristy (husband Mike) Nordsiek of Beardstown; two grandchildren Tyson (wife Jordan) Nordsiek of Beardstown and Maggie Nordsiek of Beardstown; a great grandson Baker Dean; two brothers Harold (wife Mary) Tyson of Beardstown and Jerry Tyson of Macomb; numerous nieces and nephews; and his pal Little Dog. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dick graduated from Rushville High School in the class of 1949 and then honorably served in the United States Navy. He delivered milk for Zinn’s Dairy and worked for Spears Brother’s Construction but is most famously known for owning and operating Tyson’s Drive In for nearly 30 years. Dick was a member of the Beardstown Lions Club and Beardstown Elks Lodge #1007. In his free time, he enjoyed volunteering his time serving in the “Weenie Mobile” at local events. He also had a passion for his Thunderbird car and gun collections and cherished his trips to Mexico with his wife. Dick enjoyed visiting with friends uptown during happy hour and telling stories whether they were true or not. His devotion for this community will be missed by those who knew him for not only the best root beer in town but for his self-driven attitude.

A happy hour celebration will be held from 4-6 PM Saturday, September 10, 2022 at the Beardstown Elks Lodge. There will be no formal services. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials have been suggested to Tiger Closet or Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice.  Condolences may be left online at www.colwellmemorialhome.com or on Facebook at Colwell Memorial Home.
