Debra Diane Callaway, 68 of Beardstown, died Monday, June 26, 2023 at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield.
She was born January 19, 1955, in Canton, the daughter of Lonnie Nelson Clark and Bonita Hill. She married Clyde Callaway on March 20, 2021 and he survives.
She is also survived by her children Renee J. Hollis (companion Christopher Kling) of Astoria, Timothy (wife Toedy) Hollis of the Phillipines, Jeremy Hollis (companion Judith Haigh) of Missouri; two step daughters Michelle (husband Gary) Watson of Manito and Marilyn (husband Dave) Keen of Creve Coeur; 14 grandchildren Jacob (wife Carissa) Hollis, Zachary Hollis, Nathaniel Hollis, Cooper Workman, Brittany, Whitley, Kingsley, Tony, Kelsie, Destiny Overton-Haigh, Joshua (wife Alyssa) Watson, Jamie (husband Noah) Klopfenstien, and Jessica and Ryan Whitfield; 24 great-grandchildren; a brother Leon (wife Sherri) Clark of Beardstown; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Jennifer D. Hollis, a grandson Jeremy Watson, and four brothers Herschel, Dave, Tom, and Mike Logsdon.
Debra attended Beardstown High School. She was employed throughout her lifetime as a Dietary Aid in surrounding Nursing Homes, Cargil in Beardstown, Hershey/Nestle in Jacksonville, a cook at Riverview Restaurant in Beardstown and EMI in Jacksonville. Debra was a member of First Southern Baptist Church and Guthrie-Pierce VFW Auxiliary Post #1239 both in Beardstown. Her faith and church where an important part of her life. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards and winning Bingo at the Arenzville Burgoo Festival. Debra loved getting out of the house for her favorite past times of eating out, shopping, thrifting, and listening to the Grand Ole Opry. She was a caregiver to all but most importantly she cherished the time spent with family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, June 29, 2023 at First Southern Baptist Church in Beardstown. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
