David Nichols

David Archer Nichols, 64 of Murrayville, died Sunday, January 11, 2015 at his residence. He was born July 25, 1950 in Springfield, the son of George Addison and Mariam Josephine Archer Nichols. He married Sheryl Leake on March 22, 1970 at Central Christian Church in Jacksonville.
Surviving is his wife Sheryl Nichols of Murrayville; his children Ryan (Denise) Nichols of Jacksonville, Devin (Margie) Nichols of Rochester, Greg Nichols of Fennville, MI, and Mackenzie and Dwight Nichols both of Murrayville; five grandchildren Caroline, Natalie, and Elizabeth Nichols, Madison Becker, and Kennedi Slocum; two sisters Karen Nichols of Garrison, IA, and Phyllis Nichols of Springfield; and one brother Bruce (Mindy) Nichols of Riverton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Richard Nichols.
Dave graduated from Springfield High School in the class of 1968. He served in the US Army during Vietnam War until 1971, and later graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb. In 2010 Dave retired from Doyle Plumbing and Heating after many years of service. He was a member of Local 137 Plumber and Steamfitters, Murrayville American Legion, and Jacksonville VFW Post #1379. Dave enjoyed reading and he could be seen outdoors hunting, fishing, or camping. He was very active and supportive of his children’s education and extra-curricular activities. His greatest joy was being with his family; especially his grandchildren.
Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements. Memorial services will be held at 10 AM Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Buchanan & Cody Funeral in Jacksonville with Rev. Brian Schwarberg officiating. There will be no burial. The family will meet with friends from 5-7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home in Jacksonville.
