David Mark Cox, 72 of rural Virginia, died Monday, November 20, 2023 at his home.
He was born November 4, 1952 in Beardstown, the son of Thomas Russell "Russ" and Neva Schall Cox. He married Audrey Anderson on July 28, 1974 and she survives.
He is also survived by two children Devin (wife Jessie) Cox of Fisher, IL and Chloe (husband Shane) Burbridge of Florissant, MO; four grandchildren Kyndall, Peyton, Beau, and Alice; two sisters Jill (husband Dale) Robbins of Knoxville, TN and Sara (husband Loyd) Pohl of Rochelle; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
David graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1971. During childhood, he attended Shiloh Presbyterian Church. He farmed most of his life, officially retiring in 2008, and was also a local independent Carpenter for the past 38 years. He served on the Cass County Soil and Water Conservation Board, was a longtime 4-H leader helping raise rabbits, which his children would show, and as a volunteer for Cass County Food Pantry where he enjoyed giving back by helping build shelves, unloading food, or whatever may be asked of him. In his spare time, he spent lots of time in his garden and especially loved when he had a plentiful harvest that would allow him to share extra produce along his daily stops. He was instrumental in providing summer jobs for youth in the surrounding area, but most of all, he cherished the time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Monday, December 4, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church in Virginia. The family will meet with friends two hours prior to the services at the church on Monday. There will be no burial. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to Cass County Food Pantry or Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice. Condolences may be left online at www.colwellmemorialhome.com or on Facebook at Colwell Memorial Home.
