Christy Lee “Chris” Clark, age 66 of Rushville, died Monday, September 11, 2017 at his home.
He was born August 9, 1951 in Beardstown the son of Bernard and Phyllis Imogene “Jean” Bumgartner Clark. He married Cathy Sue Cooper on September 11, 1971 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown, and she survives.
Also surviving is his mother Phyllis “Jean” Clark of Beardstown; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Glenn and Betty Cooper of Beardstown, his children Katy Clark, Kahla Schwalb, and Karey (companion Ashlee Mourning) Clark all of Rushville; Karly (husband Jason) Malek of Springfield, Diamond Clark of Jacksonville, and Murphy and R.J. Clark both of Rushville; nine grandchildren Joey, Mercedes, Keaton, Kolten, Claire, Alena, Joseph, Kayden, and Alyyah; and one sister Pamela (husband Frank) Spurlock of Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his father, his son Hikeem Clark, and his brother Terry Clark.
Chris graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1969. Following High School he worked for Glen Cooper’s Sanitation Business, who later would become his father in law. Chris worked for Critic Mills in Beardstown and then joined his father-in-law at his Construction Business. Later he took a job with Bohn Aluminum, during which he and his wife also owned and operated Pedalin’ Place in Beardstown, where they sold and repaired bicycles. Later, Chris started his own Construction Company, which he eventually retired from. In recent years he was the janitor at First Evangelical Lutheran Church and was also able to ride the bus with his son as an aide. For 37 years, he and his family have attended numerous festivals with their stand Crazy Bout It Vendors. Chris was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, but most of all, he was a family man. He and Cathy dedicated many years not only to their own family but also welcomed 11 foster children into their home.
Memorial services will be held at 2 PM Friday, September 15, 2017 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the services at the memorial home.
