Carletta Maltby

Carletta Faye Jeffers Maltby, age 74 of Chandlerville (formerly of Beardstown), passed away peacefully Friday, June 16, 2017 in her home after a courageous battle of cancer surrounded by her husband and children.

She was born September 21, 1942 in Pineville, KY, the daughter of Carly and Myrtle Lawson Jeffers. She married James Lee Maltby on October 26, 1963 in Beardstown, IL.

She is survived by her husband James Maltby; her six children, Carlene (husband Butch) Harrell of New Tazwell TN, Carla (husband Rick) Simmert of Chandlerville, IL, Melanie (husband Brock) Flinn of Bath, IL , Becky Maltby, Jimmy (wife Amanda) Maltby both of Beardstown, IL and Harold (wife Mandy) Maltby of Ashland, IL; 20 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; four sisters Dorothy Grey of Bimble, KY, Lucille Wilder of Cincinnati, OH, Brenda Dawson of Aurora, IL and Sandy (husband Curt) Hembree of Pineville, KY; and two brothers Elmer (wife Beulah) of Pineville KY and Jerry (wife Geraldine) of Middlesboro, KY; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Jimmy Dale and sister Rona Jean.

Carletta graduated from Lone Jack High School, Fourmile KY in the class of 1960. She moved to Beardstown, IL in 1962 with her family but she always called Kentucky her home. She was a homemaker while her children were growing, only occasionally working part time as a waitress or cook. She was employed by H & R Block for 15 years as a tax preparer, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. She enjoyed bowling, puzzle books, and playing the piano by ear. Her greatest passion was her family and spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. Carletta was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family; including weekly Sunday dinners. She was an amazing person who showed love to everyone she came in contact with and was beautiful inside and out. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 5-7 PM Monday at the memorial home.
