Betty Wessel

Betty Wessel, age 85 of Beardstown, died Friday, April 15, 2016 at Evergreen Place in Beardstown.
She was born October 18, 1930 in Virginia, the daughter of William “Will” and Rosa Wallace Hixon. She married Ralph Wessel on October 21, 1949 in and he preceded her in death on October 1, 2006.
She is survived by her two sons Greg (wife Deb) Wessel of Yates City and Gary (wife Dode) Wessel of Clayton; four grandchildren Brett A. (wife Paige) Wessel, Trea C. (husband Jason) Wessel-Barrett, Seth Wessel, and Dirk Wessel; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers Richard and William Hixon, and one sister Marjorie Logue.
Mrs. Wessel graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1947. Betty was a baptized and confirmed member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was a devoted wife and homemaker whom cherished spending her time raising her sons. She spent many nights at the baseball field earning her the title of “baseball mom” not only to her own boys but several others. In her free time Betty enjoyed knitting, sewing, and all types of puzzles. Most of all her family was her pride and joy.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, April 18, 2016 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Beardstown. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the services at the memorial home.
Memorials have been suggested to Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice or St. John’s Lutheran Church.
