Betty Jean Korsmeyer, age 91, of rural Rushville, died Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Beardstown.
She was born February 18, 1929 in Jacksonville, the daughter of Lafe Sr. and Helen Rousey Lamb. She married Norman R. Korsmeyer on December 16, 1951 at the First United Methodist Church in Beardstown, and he preceded her in death on September 15, 2015.
She is survived by children Cynthia Korsmeyer of Beardstown, Ken (wife Kristine) Korsmeyer of Rushville, and Alecia (husband John) Crowe of Beardstown; seven grandchildren Jennifer (husband Robert) Dotzert, Jonathan Korsmeyer, Jill (husband Jason) Barth, Ashley (husband Casey) French, Adam (wife Holly) Crowe, Erik (wife Christine) Crowe, and Paul Crowe; thirteen great grandchildren Hunter, Hayden, and Halle Dotzert, Killian, Flynn, and Kennedy Barth, Caroline, James, and Claire French, Clay and Shelby Crowe, and Isla and Cooper Crowe; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Lew Korsmeyer, her brother Lafe Lamb, Jr. and a special friend since childhood Donna (Bollhorst) McCoy.
Mrs. Korsmeyer graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1947. She was a high school cheerleader for her classmates who went to State in basketball and baseball. She then graduated Blessing Hospital School of Nursing in 1950 and worked as a surgical nurse at Schmidt Memorial Hospital in Beardstown. She also was the Co-chairman of the Beardstown Hospital gift shop for many years. Betty was a volunteer for Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice and a nurse for Red Cross blood mobile. She also helped in the farrowing department at N. Korsmeyer Farms Inc.
Betty was a confirmed member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beardstown, where she participated in Concordia Guild, Alter Guild, Aid and Mission Society, and was a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of Homemakers County Extension (HCE). Many kids knew her as a Cub Scout Den Mother and as a chauffeur to ball practice and games.
Private family services will be held with burial in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Beardstown. An informal visitation for friends will be held from 10-11 AM Monday, January 4, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beardstown. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
Due to the current health situation, face masks will be required and social distancing guidelines should be followed.
