Betty Hammel

Betty Jean Hammel, age 92 of Beardstown, died Sunday February 9, 2020 at Heritage Health in Beardstown.

She was born December 24, 1927 in Beardstown the daughter of Lester and Hazel May Landes Lynn. She married Carl Hammel on October 30, 1946 in Beardstown and he preceded her in death October 8, 2007.

She is survived by her daughters Carla (special friend Eric Parrish) Savage of Beardstown and Karen Vogt of Chatham; three grandchildren David (wife Sherry) Wells of Beardstown, Jennifer (husband Travis) Foster of Rochester, and Jamie (husband Kevin) Watford of Franklin, TN; two great grandchildren Katie Jo Wells and Skye Lynn Foster; and one sister Peggy Greathouse of Beardstown. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers Harry, Abe, and Robert Lynn; and three sisters Hazel Crawford, Patsy Workman and Dorothy Lancaster.

Mrs. Hammel graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1945 and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Beardstown. She worked as a Surgery Technician at Schmidt Memorial Hospital in Beardstown for 30 years and retired when the hospital closed. Betty enjoyed refinishing furniture, spending time baking and crafting. Her memory will live on through the life of her family.

Graveside services will be held at 2:15 PM Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 1-2 P.M. on Wednesday at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown
