Anthony William "Hap" Wiscombe, 85 of Millstadt, IL died Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Beardstown Health and Rehab Center.
He was born January 1, 1939 in Edgemont, IL, the son of William Anthony and Ursula Brenner Wiscombe. He married Norma Jean Bower on July 3, 1985 and she preceded him in death on May 12, 2021.
He is survived by two children David Wiscombe (wife Darlene) of Clarksville, TN and Judy Rebman (husband Greg) of Frederick, IL; three grandchildren Thomas Strong (wife Claudia), Andrew Strong (wife Jessica), and Kyle Strong (wife Megan) two great-grandchildren Alejandro and Christian; a sister Celeste Weaver (deceased husband Homer) of New Baden, IL; a brother James Wiscombe (wife Barbara) of Millstadt, IL; several nieces and nephews; his neighbors and good friends back home Danny and Kelly Schult, and Susie and Tim Chew; and his beloved doggy, JoJo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a grandson Dustin Anthony Strong, a brother Edward Wiscombe.
Anthony was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Belleville. He successfully completed his apprenticeship and received his Journeyman's Certificate from the Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America with which he was a lifelong member. He worked in the construction industry his whole career and spent many of those years with Erlinger Construction. From time to time, he also worked as a farmhand and road laborer. He designed, and with the help of his brother, Jim, built two different homes for his family during his lifetime. For many years Anthony served as a volunteer firefighter and Captain with the Northwest Volunteer Fire Department in Belleville, IL. He attended and completed ongoing firemanship training. He was a member of Mid-America Carpenters Union, Angler's Club, and was a Shriner with the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Southern Illinois Ainad Temple. He obtained a private pilot license (ASEL) for small engine airplanes and enjoyed the time he spent flying and co-owning his very own plane. He had a curious mind and spent a lot of time reading in his mancave. Some of his hobbies included making his own tackle, fishing, hunting, making his own ammo, raising chickens, goats, and rabbits, gardening, observing nature and wildlife, taking things apart to see how they worked, and building control line model airplanes. He loved animals and was a "dad" to many pets throughout his life.
Graveside service will be held at 10 AM Friday, July 19, 2024 at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights. Colwell Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
